Toprak Razgatlioglu ha compiuto l'impresa. Al primo anno in BMW ha portato a casa un titolo dominando la stagione più di quanto i numeri non dicano, e dopo il secondo l'ha confermata! Il turco è diventato tre volte campione del mondo, battendo in un finale concitato Nicolò Bulega e la Ducati, che comunque si è laureata campione costruttori e team. Sono stati loro due i protagonisti di una stagione che li ha visti vincere tutte le gare tranne una. 21 vittorie per Razgatlioglu, 14 per Bulega e una per Andrea Locatelli, quarto nel mondiale alle spalle del veterano Alvaro Bautista. Danilo Petrucci, che ha saltato gli ultimi due round per infortunio e che avrebbe potuto finire terzo assoluto, si accontenta del quinto posto e del titolo come miglior pilota indipendente.
